New Album: Intimacy Coordinator coming Valentine’s Day 2022

Intimacy Coordinator, Straight White Teeth’s forthcoming third full-length record, out Valentine's Day of 2022, leverages insightful piano, baroque finger-plucked acoustic guitars, and gauzy, despair-tinged vocals to craft melancholic songs that chronicle the sudden end of McGuire’s seven-year relationship. Written and recorded over a tumultuous two-month period shortly before, during, and after McGuire’s breakup in the spring of 2021, Intimacy Coordinator naively revels in the sturdy comfort of long-term love, poetically rages at its irreversible unraveling, and deeply mourns its absence. “If this album sounds rushed, that’s because it was,” says McGuire. “These songs were too painful to work on for too long. I’ve never wanted to be finished with something more in my life.” Featuring the most intimate original music of McGuire’s career along with two haunting covers that were significant to the couple, Intimacy Coordinator is an affecting musical meditation on the dramatic end of a shared life.
