New Record out May 18th

I’m elated to finally share the release date of my second full-length album, Costilla. The record comes out May 18th. It’s a collection of ten songs comprised of new versions of songs like “Flowering” and “The Night Washes Its Face” along with new tracks. For this album, I stepped away from my computer and MIDI keyboard and wrote almost exclusively with my acoustic guitar. My first album Charming Pet GIFs used electronics in songs that tackled the theme of digital technologies crowding out our collective humanity like a pernicious and stealthy weed and replacing it with something colder and more sinister. Built with finger-plucked guitars and hushed vocals, Costilla feels and sounds like it lives in a different universe. The stories encapsulated in these ten songs are mainly ones straight from my life: A serious bike accident I experienced in Philadelphia in 2016, a surreal encounter I had with a dog, cross-crossing North America in search of a home with my partner. The album title is the name of the tiny, windswept community in northern New Mexico we moved to just before the pandemic. While everything about creating Charming Pet GIFs felt like a struggle, making this album felt intuitive, natural, and hopeful––a bit like surrendering. Maybe it was the joy of getting away from screens and rediscovering my guitar. Or maybe immersing myself in the world of this album was a desperately needed source of joy during a terrible time. Probably both.

If you’re reading this and have supported me or my work in any way over the past six years, thank you. It means the world to me. I can’t wait to share this music with you. The record will be available on Spotify, Bandcamp, Soundcloud, TIDAL, Amazon, and most other places music is heard on the internet on May 18th.
